I was just reading these old posts and I don't have any gray hair anymore. It's so weird, but I was just looking and there aren't any now. Schwing.

Just a little more effort and you could have turned this review into haiku!

Three main characters
They're indistinguishable
And then the book ends

It doesn't completely conflict with point 1. I think you can find nuanced, complicated children and adult books that still are able to impart a feeling of at least a struggle to do the "right" thing, even if it doesn't succeed.

And even if they don't, they also don't leave the reader wishing so hard that they would, which I think is where this book fails. Ok, fine, you don't want to show a clear moral hero. Then don't set the entire story up making me wish one would emerge! It just leaves you with a dissatisfied feeling at the end, and I really didn't like that.

Her post-apocalyptic world and the hunger game itself reminds me of a lot of other stories, too, actually. Burned-out landscape, people scrabbling for food, minimal technology - wasn't that in The Road? And the hunger game itself is just a retelling of the short story The Lottery. I just wasn't impressed.

Hmmm...your point 3 conflicts with your point 1.

That being said, the book does seem to be aimed at a slightly younger market, but I found it good enough that I bought the others and finished them, and it ended up being fairly satisfying. I appreciated the world-building, though.

Well said. I just got out of a long relationship, and I'm trying to comeback to the exact state of mind you described here :) Feels good to know it's not just me who loves being independently happy.

Get one of those cat perch things. There has to be one big enough for him to climb onto, even if you have to add a step for him. Poor thing. Maybe you could look into finding a dog sitter for him during the day. Put up an ad on CL, I'm sure you could find something.

I just went to the advisor's site and looked up my dog's food...and while there are a lot of different ones, he claimed he couldn't find the nutrition information on Hill's site (for Science Diet). Dunno when he did it, but I was just able to find it quite easily. And it's extremely different from what he said, and costs...rather less...than the hippie foods he was promoting.

FYI. YMMV. OMGWTFBBQ.

If you really don't mind damaging the window sill just drill some holes in the top of the platform right above the window sill. Then drill into the sill as well, so that one of these can be screwed into the sill and stick through the platform. Then you can put a washer and a wing nut on the machine thread end and it should be easy to take it off when you need to. You will need two hex nuts to screw the hanger bolt into the sill. The wing nuts and the end of the bolt may stick up a little depending on the thickness of the platform, but you can maybe find something to cover it to prevent injury.

I haven't seen you window sill, but maybe a simple clamp would work and not cause so much damage. Replacing the sill could be a costly repair coming out of your security deposit.
